A caffeine-free ‘root coffee’ and tonic.

A rich, grounding alternative to traditional coffee, Roots Café is crafted from roasted roots and mushrooms, offering a deep, earthy flavour with a hint of cardamom—an homage to how coffee has been traditionally enjoyed.

This versatile blend can be brewed using a cafetiere, percolator, stovetop, V60, or filter.

Key Benefits

Craft a nourishing tonic packed with prebiotic roots and mushrooms, thoughtfully formulated by a skilled practitioner. These prebiotics provide essential nourishment for probiotics—the beneficial bacteria that maintain gut health. By strengthening, feeding, and harmonizing the microbiome, this drink helps to correct dysbiosis, clear toxins (‘ama’) from the gut, and support the liver’s natural detoxification processes. Beyond gut health, the tonic helps balance ‘pitta,’ promote a clear complexion, and bolster the immune system. Additionally, it supports stress resilience by regulating the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, helping the body adapt to life’s pressures.

Pregnancy Benefits

This formula is designed with those who need to avoid caffeine in mind, including pregnant and breastfeeding mothers. While no research to date indicates toxicity during pregnancy with these specific herbs and mushrooms, the available data is still limited. Traditionally, reishi has been used as a supportive herb, often referred to as a "reishi baby," signifying its role in providing grounding and support during pregnancy and birth. As medicinal mushrooms and herbs may affect immune function, it’s important to approach their use with care. Listen to your body, take it slow, and consult a knowledgeable practitioner if you have any concerns.

Medicine Card

The Ritual

Place 1 teaspoon of the blend into a cafetière, then add 200ml (1 cup) of hot water. Let it steep for 5 minutes before pouring. Alternatively, use a pour-over coffee filter (V60) with 1 teaspoon of the blend and 200ml of hot water for a smooth infusion.

For a stronger, espresso-style brew, use 2 teaspoons. The longer you allow it to steep, the more robust the flavor will become. Serve in your favorite cup, with a dash of frothy milk or black. Sweeten as desired.

Enjoy 1-2 cups a day and do not exceed the recommended daily intake.

Additional Ways to Enjoy Roots Cafe:

  • Enhance Your Morning Coffee: Add a teaspoon of Roots Cafe to your usual coffee brew. It works beautifully in a stovetop percolator, bringing a new depth to your cup.
  • Iced Treat: Brew your Roots Cafe as normal, then let it cool. Fill a glass with ice and cold milk, and pour the cooled Roots Cafe over the top for a refreshing iced drink.
